New York City Subway maps for iPhone/iPod Touch... come and get 'em.
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 12:48AM
I know this may seem like a big uh-duh for many... but I went through the trouble of multiple iPod syncs and trial and error to find a set of NY MTA subway maps that fit on an iPod Touch AND remain legible, and I thought I'd share them with you.
Apple has this annoying habit of down grading the resolution of large pictures during syncing. The problem is that the subway map graphics end up becoming all fuzzy and you can't tell what station is what.
Many people are bugged by this... but that's neither here nor there...Well I found that by cropping into quadrants, and saving as four separate files, helps retain legibility. Yeah.... I have two masters degrees, and this was my high tech solution... but have at them if you like.

All subways and subway stations have maps of the system, so even should you not have an iPhone, it's no big deal at all.
This was before all the great subway map apps that are now available on the iTunes App Store were available... which is also to say that it is no secret many people prefer to have a easy to reference subway map on their person rather than relying on posted system maps in the subways themselves.
So you've never used a pocket subway map or seen someone using one? Or never seen a fold out subway map being folded and unfolded by tourists?
But thanks for the comment. Anyways...
I myself now use iTrans NYC most of the time, and then UpNext when I need to see the lines overlaid on a map.
scooby dooby doo!
I thought it was going to be some boring old blog post, but it truly compensated for my time. I will article a link to this page on my weblog. I am sure my website visitors will find that very helpful. Regards, Shantae.
